Commissioned by Blackburn Music Society for their summer concert in June 2019.

The choir wanted a piece that celebrated the city of Blackburn using a poem by a local poet.

​

I ended up setting sections of a beautifully descriptive poem by William Billington, 'The Blackburn Poet', called 'Blackburn as it was'. I used this very effusive text to create an anthem for the choir to celebrate the heritage of their city.
